The Huntington Harbor Lighthouse, known to residents as the “Castle on the Bay,” had spent 20 years in serious disrepair, and in dire need of attention. With only a few years left before hitting the demolishing block, Janis Harrington, a long-time lighthouse enthusiast, rallied up enough support to form Save Huntington's Lighthouse, Inc. in 1985, a group designed to do just that: save the lighthouse and reverse the Coast Guard's plans.
